Appearance

Shoto is a moderately alpine and rather muscular young man who is well-built for his age. He has quite long pilus, though it doesn't pass his neck, and wears bangs, parted twice as to not obscure his vision.

His hair is evenly split between two colors: white on his right side and reddish red on his left, this unusual coloring existence due to his Quirk. As some other consequence of this, he also possesses heterochromia iridium, which causes his left centre'south iris to announced turquoise, while his correct is a brownish dark grayness.

His eyes, in shape, are quite sparse and reserved. Additionally, he has a large burn down scar on the left side of his face, which reaches from his hairline to halfway downward his cheek. He usually has a serious expression. Despite this, nevertheless, several of the girls in his course have claimed that he is handsome and Mina Ashido fifty-fifty goes every bit far as to say that he's the best-looking guy in Class one-A.[4]

During school hours, he wears the regular male U.A. uniform, replacing the usual brown dress shoe with casual pale cyan and grey lace-upward sneakers.

In his initial hero costume, he wears a plainly off-white shirt with matching pants and boots, with two gold-colored straps going over his shoulders. He has what appears to be a cloth resembling ice covering his whole left side, even his caput, although it is detachable, which he wears as a fashion of rejecting the fire aspect of his Quirk.

His updated hero costume consists of a dark blue jacket with elbow-length sleeves, its collar high and joined in the center past a gray neckpiece, baggy pants of the same color, a metal-plated combat belong and white boots, their soles and a thin line running downwards the center of each of them a darker stake gray. He also sports a dark-brown utility belt effectually his waist, with trivial metallic capsules containing medical supplies hanging off the front.

Later, in the Provisional Hero License Exam Arc, his costume gains two burgundy wrist guards with metallic plating, which assistance to regulate the temperature of his body after his attacks, and his boots now take a set of straps.

Sometime during Bound Interruption, Shoto further upgrades his costume, which has some visual similarities to his begetter'due south 2d costume. His wrist guards now feature armor-like bracing and are accompanied past plating going from his wrist to his knuckles. His jacket at present features a big gray-blue T-shaped stripe going from his waist to his armpits, and his utility chugalug now holds two large canisters along with his medical supplies. His costume is also a darker shade of blue than his earlier costumes.

For Mission: Humarise, Izuku, Katsuki, and Shoto are chosen by the Attempt Agency and the World Heroes Associations to be given with special avant-garde stealth costumes for their mission to Otheon. Shoto designs his stealth costume to resemble the third variant with the unabridged suit existence made of a neoprene black jacket and slim blackness pants that take built in knee-pads, metal plates to regulate his body temperature and longer sleeves. The boots have silver metallic heels to go a firm grip on his ice. He added a black gauntlet that extends up to his elbows to keep control of his ice and fire to a minimum exposure. He as well sports a black utility belt around his waist with silver ironings that holds little metal capsules containing medical supplies. The oversized hood had silver metal outlining's at the edge. Furthermore, this costume came with two silver plates on his shoulders, with the letters "WHA" (Earth Heroes Association) on information technology and his two straps coming down from the hood, styled silver and with a cherry-red push on the left.

Personality

Shoto's original coldness.

Shoto originally had a cold, aristocratic personality, which stemmed from his abusive upbringing and complicated family unit life. Focused and unemotional, Shoto preferred to keep to himself instead of hanging out with other people. Afterward the events of the U.A. Sports Festival, however, Shoto notably became more sociable and kind, even gaining a sense of humour and occasionally smiling, although still retaining some fragments of his previous distant attitude. After the Conditional Hero License Form, he began opening up more to his classmates and has lightened up from his ordinarily serious demeanor. Nonetheless, Shoto is not quite used to socializing notwithstanding, coming off as a bit dumbo when it comes to understanding certain phrases and figures of speech communication.

While usually quiet and reserved, Shoto did initially possess a moderate level of arrogance, which, combined with his solitary tendencies, sometimes made him accept the initiative without considering the opinions of others, displaying confidence that he could take on any obstacles with his own strength. He used to be much more than unfriendly as well, to the point where his cold attitude caused Inasa Yoarashi to resent him while he was none the wiser. Even in the present, Shoto seems to prefer acting alone, although but for applied purposes since doing so allows him to unleash his total power without having to worry about friendly fire. Calm and equanimous, however fell in combat, Shoto is well-grounded on the ideals of heroism, simply wishing to subdue his frozen opponents as opposed to killing them past prolonging the freezing.

Shoto infuriated with Endeavor.

Shoto had a deep loathing for his fire abilities, which he inherited from Endeavor, as it symbolized his male parent'due south wickedness towards him and his female parent every bit well equally what he was born to exist: a tool to surpass All Might, a fate that he detested. As such, Shoto decided to rely solely on his freezing ability and never use the other half of his Quirk in battles (save only for melting his ice), going and then far as to cover his left trunk and arm with ice in his first Hero Costume to symbolize his rebellion against his father. Shoto often felt bothered by Endeavour's mere presence, and could barely contain his acrimony while talking to him, specially whenever the Pro Hero brought upwardly the purpose he had intended for his son since before nativity.

Shoto ignores his resentment later listening to Izuku's words.

During his match with Izuku Midoriya in the U.A. Sports Festival, Izuku'due south spoken language fabricated the memory of his mother'south supportive words resurface, and for the first time since his childhood, Shoto used his firepower in gainsay. Afterwards the battle, Shoto had mixed feelings nigh using his left side, merely later on reconciling with his mother, Shoto somewhen came to terms with the half he one time hated and became willing to train it further. Despite existence scarred by her when he was a immature child, Shoto shows no hate or disliking towards his mother, visiting her often ever since the stop of the Sports Festival. Shoto draws his heroic values from All Might, a trait he shares with Izuku and Katsuki Bakugo, having fond memories of watching the Symbol of Peace on tv set together with Rei.

Nonetheless, Shoto's grudge towards Endeavor has non even so disappeared, even if he respects his male parent's ability as a Hero, cocky-admitting that such resentment can't vanish so easily and that he was wrong in trying to bury it. Having been denied a normal childhood so that his father could railroad train him to realize his own selfish ambitions, Shoto however holds various psychological scars, which tend to reemerge when others compare him to Endeavor. Because of this and Izuku's influence, Shoto now strives to become a Hero, only without walking the same path his father did.

Shoto remains relatively cold towards Try and has fabricated information technology clear that forgiveness for his by handling of him and his female parent is difficult, but has demonstrated worry pertaining to his father's safety. Ever since Endeavor tried to repair his human relationship with his family unit, Shoto has taken a cautious, withal hopeful approach to the evolution.[5]

Abilities

Shoto effortlessly defeating villains at the UsJ..

Overall Abilities: Having been trained past his father, Endeavor, at a young age, Shoto entered U.A. High School through recommendations, and has been established as one of the strongest students in Class 1-A. He earned 2d place in both the Quirk Anticipation Test and U.A. Sports Festival. Shoto also has a great handle over his versatile and powerful Quirk, One-half-Cold Half-Hot, which grants him incredible dual-element capabilities. Using the right side of his body, Shoto can drastically lower temperatures and freeze annihilation he touches, and generate ice that he can freely mold into numerous constructs that include ice waves that cover big areas, and ice barriers.[iii] [half dozen] [vii] [8] Shoto likewise employs his cryokinetic abilities for mobility purposes, such as stacking ice shards behind his back to propel himself frontwards, glaciating the ground to skate on information technology, or his signature movement, creating trails of ice on which he tin can surf.[nine] [10] [11] From the left side of his body, Shoto tin eloquently increase thermokinetics and release scorching hot flames in the form of consuming streams or protective waves.[12] Overall, Shoto has tremendous power, simply because of past decisions and circumstances, such as his intentional neglect of one half of his Quirk, he has yet to attain his total potential.

With help from his friends, Shoto defeats the fully powered Bubble.

At the U.s.J., Shoto was able to easily overpower small-time villains at the Landslide Zone by himself, and later on showcased elite judgment, combat awareness, and athletic ability during the U.A. Sports Festival.[thirteen] At the festival, Shoto was able to neutralize a Villain Bot-Executor, defeat his swift classmates, Hanta Sero and Tenya Ida, likewise as fight on par with Izuku Midoriya for a prolonged period of time to a nigh-draw. In his battle against Izuku, a fan claimed that Shoto was already stronger than the average Pro Hero. When he was pitted confronting Katsuki Bakugo in the last round of the Sports Festival, in that location was a chance Shoto could've won the match using his burn down powers, only due to inner turmoil, he extinguished his inferno, leaving him open to Katsuki's "Howitzer Impact", and losing the match. Starting with the Hosu Incident, Shoto began the full embracement of his left side, as well as his pyro-cryogenic interchangeability, peculiarly when he, Izuku, and Tenya faced off confronting the Hero Killer: Stain. Following his run-in with the Hero Killer, Shoto is recognized equally one of strongest students of Class 1-A, as noted past Pixie-Bob.[fourteen]

While Shoto may possess full supremacy over his cryomancy, the control over his pyrokinesis was initially relatively inept, peculiarly in comparison to that of Endeavor. However, later the third match of the Joint Preparation Battle, Shoto realized that he had overlooked his left side for too long, which had put him and his team at a disadvantage, and resolved to achieve greater mastery over his pyrokinetic abilities by learning the fundamentals of "Flashfire Fist", Endeavor's signature technique. Thank you to his 2d internship, Shoto's handling over his left side has improved significantly, equally he can now use his pyromancy in a new variety of ways, such as boosting his motility speed, launching himself through the air, and attacking with bonfire-powered punches. And though Shoto is powerful, contending with individuals such as Stain, Eraser Head, Wolfram, Moonfish, Mr. Shrink, Gang Orca, Chimera, Ending, and Tomura Shigaraki crave Shoto'southward constructive camaraderie with multiple people in order to prevail against such formidable opponents, excluding Leviathan. That was inappreciably the case during the climax of the Paranormal Liberation State of war, wherein he faced his brother Dabi in a battle of flames that nearly resulted in Shoto being burned alive, had information technology non been for Izuku's cursory intervention. As the torso-charring Todoroki brothers resumed their total-power pyromantic disharmonism, Shoto ended up losing, but Dabi chose to spare his blood brother, every bit information technology would've been pointless to impale him without Attempt watching.

During Class A'south mission to bring Izuku back to U.A. subsequently he left following the events of the state of war, Shoto displayed an even greater mastery over his cryokinetic abilities. In particular, his control over the shape of his ice has become much more refined, being able to course a massive vertical colonnade of ice with Sky-Piercing Ice Wall, and even being able to create a shine curved ramp without the need of a solid framework. Furthermore, he's shown the power to utilise his signature motility, Flashfreeze Heatwave, without needing to cool the air down showtime; now he can merely put his easily together and unleash the power of both sides at one time to create the aforementioned upshot.

  • Enhanced Durability: Shoto has proven himself to exist quite resilient, being able to withstand multiple attacks from Izuku, including a directly, One For All-enhanced punch at 5% forcefulness to the tummy, without sustaining major injuries.[15] During his fight with Leviathan, Shoto was able to withstand his dial, which was strong enough to destroy the flooring of the Humanise headquarters. One of the most impressive examples of Shoto's resilience, was when he endured the superior agnikinesis of Dabi, although, Shoto was partially shielded by his own agnimancy, and Dabi intentionally held back in his last set on that left Shoto alive.
  • Enhanced Stamina: Shoto has shown to be able to endure gainsay even while injured. For example, in his boxing with Stain, he was able to continue fighting and supporting his allies despite suffering from multiple bleeding injuries on his arm and face,[12] and was still able to drag the villain's unconscious trunk one time the battle is over.[16] When he engaged Dabi in an agnikinetic brawl, Shoto continued to fight on despite his trunk slowly condign charred.
  • Enhanced Agility: Shoto is fast, agile, and has quick reflexes. He was able to keep first place during the majority of the Obstacle Race during the Sports Festival cheers to his own athletic ability. He repeatedly created ice walls within a split second in order to forestall himself from getting thrown out of the ring through his matchups with Izuku and Katsuki.[17] He was the only one in Grade 1-A capable of at least partly reacting to and dodging Tenya'south Recipro Turbo. He was too able to partially contrivance a knife thrown at his face up and several other attacks past Stain, a notably swift opponent.[12]

Keen Intellect: Shoto has proven to be a very intelligent person. And in spite of his training, Shoto is also very skilled in academics, having scored fifth identify in the midterms.[18] During the United statesJ. Incident, Shoto accurately extrapolated that the invading villains had a Quirk user amongst their ranks that could jam communications. At the same fourth dimension, he realized the attacking villains had an calendar and interrogated some of them to become answers.[19] Shoto's theory was proven correct as the villain'south goal was to kill All Might. Shoto also deduced Izuku had a connectedness to All Might after observing Izuku's power and matching it to that of All Might when the latter was fighting Nomu. Though on point about Izuku's link to the Symbol of Peace, Shoto incorrectly believed Izuku might be All Might's secret love child.[20] Before long before the Hosu Incident, Shoto noticed the look of anger in Tenya's eyes, and hands surmised that he was just taking upwards an internship in Hosu City to seek vengeance on the Hero Killer: Stain. While on patrol in Hosu, Shoto was able to work out the location of Izuku, Tenya, and Stain from an emergency phone call and make it in time, even so he did mutter it took a while, equally Izuku didn't relay more than than the exact location.[21]

When he and Momo Yaoyorozu were paired together to face Eraser Head for their Outset Term Final Exam, Shoto suggested that Momo continuously creates random objects until she was unable to exercise so, which would signify that the Eraser Hero is nearby, all in endeavour to lure him out and act as a diversion so Momo tin make her way to the escape gate. Shoto's strategy worked, simply equally explained by Eraser Head, it was too offense-oriented, every bit Shoto had placed the burden on himself and did not trust Momo enough. Later on being scolded by his teacher and approached by his returning classmate, Shoto admitted to being aware of Momo having a plan from the start of their matchup and non to inquiring about it, earlier properly cooperating with her. Observing the second friction match of the Joint Training Battle involving the teams of Momo and Itsuka Kendo, Shoto noticed a flaw in Itsuka's precautionary modus operandi in separating Momo from her Class 1-A teammates. He elucidated that if she really wanted to be cautious of Momo, then Itsuka would've had her entire team overwhelm the Everything Hero at the beginning of the lucifer.[22] After witnessing Izuku's awakening of a 2d Quirk, Shoto speculated that the I For All inheritor may exist like him, having multiple powers in one singular ability, just Shoto didn't yet recognize the true depth of Izuku'due south new power.[23]

Having regained his lost conviction, Shoto finally uses his flames.

Indomitable Will: Shoto has a highly undaunted spirit, non hands giving in to intimidation that would disrupt his focus, maintaining a absurd caput, and pushes through adversity. Initially, Shoto was a jaded and aloof person due to the abuse he and his family received from Endeavor's previous callousness, resulting in Shoto refusing to use his left side in battles as a sign of rejecting his male parent. Once the U.A. Sports Festival was underway, Shoto was considerably hellbent on not using his fire powers, but this misguided decision was corrected when he faced Izuku, who vehemently expressed that those powers belong to Shoto, nobody else. This triggered a latent retentivity within Shoto's psyche, as he recalled how his mother, Rei Todoroki, and All Might said those same words that inspired Shoto to exist a hero that can put people at ease with a smile, merely like All Might himself. Remembering both these passionate words and his resolve, Shoto was free from the turmoil that stirred inside of him, finally used the ability housed within his left side, and expressed how he, like Izuku, will be a hero and was grateful to Izuku for saving him from the emotional shackles that were weighing him down.

Recalling Izuku'southward words of encouragement and Endeavor's communication, Shoto pushes past his limits and unleashes the total might of his flames.

Unfortunately, subsequently, despite willingly using the power of his left side, Shoto still had some level of incertitude. While battling Katsuki, Shoto, equally Eraser Caput explicated, lost his spark following his previous match with Izuku, causing him to not requite 100% of his strength. Every bit Shoto was becoming paralyzed with doubt, Izuku cheered him on, encouraging him to practise his best, in one case once again reigniting Shoto'southward will to fight and use his ignikinesis. Yet at the last second, earlier clashing with Katsuki, Shoto's inner turmoil was too prevalent, causing him to extinguish his conflagration, and in turn, lose the battle against Katsuki. Following the Sports Festival, Shoto has fortified his drive, becoming more than willing to use his agnimantic abilities in boxing, and fifty-fifty having the backbone to finally face his mother, Rei, who previously, albeit in a mentally unstable state, gave Shoto the scar over his left eye.

When the Provisional License Exam occurred, Shoto'south will was tested again when he had a major altercation with Inasa Yoarashi, having coldly rebuffing the aerokinetic'due south warm personality when the two met at the U.A. Recommendation Archway Exam for recommended students. Shoto realized that he all the same hasn't moved past Endeavor's maltreatment, and his horrid attitude led to Inasa developing his own hateful disposition towards Shoto himself. The infighting between the ii elemental users resulted in them being repeatedly unable to land an attack on Gang Orca and were left at the mercy of him and his sidekicks. Shortly later, however, Izuku arrived on the scene and scolded Shoto and Inasa for their deportment, making the weakened students realize their error of being uncooperative with one another. The pair reaffirmed their convictions, put their differences aside, and finally worked together, despite beingness incapacitated. Unfortunately, their personal disharmonize with each other cost them the licensing test and had to have remedial courses to make up for their imprudence and failure. Having undergone self-reflection, Shoto and Inasa displayed fully mutual congeniality towards each other when they crossed paths again at the Remedial Exam.

During the third match of the Articulation Training Boxing, Shoto was pressured by Tetsutetsu Tetsutetsu, but was able to recall Endeavor's counsel on bringing his inferno to the limit, and so surpassing that very noon. This communication proved pivotal, every bit Shoto, also recollecting Izuku's words of encouragement, understood that if he wants to become the hero he desires to be, he has to get across what his body and Quirk are capable of doing. His will sparked again, Shoto brought his pyrokinesis to the limit, equaling the potency of Endeavor'south own flames, and was able to better hold his own against Tetsutetsu and put latter'due south metal skin at take chances of melting. In the climax of the Paranormal Liberation War, Shoto's spirit took a meaning blow when Dabi revealed his true identity as Toya Todoroki, Shoto's eldest sibling who was thought to have been deceased. Discovering that Toya was alive for years, became a villain, and orchestrated the recent encounters with Hood, Starservant, and Ending, Shoto was sent into a tearful rage. In spite of these revelations, Shoto remained steadfast and was more than willing to engage his corrupted blood brother, not wavering when the Todoroki brothers clashed, despite Toya's superior abilities.

Quirk

Half-Cold Half-Hot.

Half-Cold Half-Hot ( ( はん ) ( れい ) ( はん ) ( ねん ) , Hanrei Han'nen ? ): Shoto's Quirk gives him the power to generate ice from the correct side of his body, and flames from his left side.

Due to years of rejecting his father, Shoto has developed a habit of favoring ice, even when burn down would exist a amend option. This grudge as well caused him to take difficulty controlling his flames. While he is capable of using both elements simultaneously, he isn't used to doing this and still needs to exercise dual-wielding. While training for his ultimate move, he claimed that using both abilities at the same time slows him down.

If he overuses one element without utilizing the other, then his own body temperature volition endure; the ice half volition cause frostbite and the fire one-half will cause heatstroke. Until his actual limit is reached, however, neither has any visible effect on his body. Shoto can hands negate this weakness by alternating between ice and fire.

As part of his training, Shoto sat in a barrel of water and alternated between using ice and burn down to regulate the temperature of the water. It helped his torso become accustomed to the cold, and he learned better control over his flames.

Super Moves

Heaven-Piercing Ice Wall.

  • Sky-Piercing Water ice Wall ( 穿 ( ) ( てん ) ( ひょう ) ( へき ) , Gaten Hyōheki ? ): Shoto creates an enormous ice glacier, that can either encapsulate his opponent or block the immediate field of boxing in ice. This motion is get-go used in his boxing against Hanta Sero in the Sports Festival,[half-dozen] merely is unnamed until the Final Exams[24]. He noted to Hanta that information technology was more than powerful than necessary, but he was irritated (from talking with Endeavor) and overdid it. A variation of this motion, slightly smaller in size, simply more controllable, is shown in his boxing confronting Katsuki.[25] He also used this attack repeatedly on a massive calibration while attacking Mr. Shrink.
  • Wall of Flames ( ( ほのお ) ( かべ ) , Honō no Kabe ? ): Shoto uses his left side to generate a flare-up of flames that covers a big area. This is both a defensive and offensive attack like his Giant Ice Wall technique. It tin can be used to set on multiple opponents and create space between Shoto and his target. Shoto first used this attack confronting Tetsutetsu Tetsutetsu during the Joint Preparation Battle with Class 1-B.[26]
  • Flashfreeze Heatwave ( ( ぼう ) ( れい ) ( ねっ ) ( ) , Bōrei Neppa ? ): To utilise this technique, first Shoto cools the air around him with his ice powers. And so, past switching to his burn down, Shoto rapidly heats and expands the air around him. This allows him to release a superheated blast. He first used this attack against Izuku Midoriya at the climax of their match in the Sports Festival.
  • Flashfire Fist ( ( かく ) ( しゃく ) ( ねっ ) ( けん ) , Kaku Shakunekken ? ): Endeavor's signature technique, subsequently passed down to Shoto himself. The user increases the temperature of their flames to their maximum and compresses them to a white-hot signal, maximizing their power.
    • Hell Spider (ヘルスパイダー , Heru Supaidā ? ): Shoto concentrates his fire and emits it out of his fingertips, assuasive him to cut through objects. He kickoff uses this assault to destroy the lasers at a Humarise base of operations.[27]
    • Jet Kindling ( ( ふん ) ( りゅう ) ( ) ( えん ) , Funryūshien ? ): Shoto concentrates his flames into a white-hot signal on his fist and punches his opponent. On contact, a vehement explosion of flames flare-up out of Shoto's arm, severely burning his target.[28] Shoto outset uses this assail against Leviathan in the last battle against Humarise.[27]
    • Phosphor ( ( りん ) , Rin ? ): Shoto channels both halves of his Quirk onto either side of his body, combines the 2 elements into his easily, and hits his opponent with the result. This is start used confronting Dabi during the 2d State of war.[29]

Equipment

Hero Costume: Post-obit his winter internship with Effort, Shoto has upgraded his second hero costume. Like before, his tertiary costume is designed to optimize the use of both his fire and water ice sides in combat, and diminish the drawbacks of Shoto's Quirk equally much as possible by regulating his body temperature.[30] But it has been farther enhanced to conform his increased firepower and new abilities, and includes additional first assist equipment for emergencies.

  • Temperature Resistant Jacket: Shoto'due south blue jacket is made from a special burn down-resistant cobweb. There is a special device nearly the neck that senses Shoto's trunk temperature and supports the vest to help regulate information technology. His third costume'due south jacket is made of a more estrus-resistant fabric and is stiffer than before.
  • Combat Vest: The device on Shoto's back is capable of sensing Shoto's body temperature and automatically heats upward or cools down accordingly. Shoto requested his original costume had a device that heated up.

While his previous costume's wrist guards were fabricated from the aforementioned cloth equally his belong, these gauntlets are metal and are designed to agree hot and cold air within them in order to help Shoto compress his ice and fire powers amend.
